Not our job? Are you sure?

Like every new scheme or initiative by the Government this one also couldn’t escape ridicule-the Swacch Bharat Mission they call it? Hah! “Nothing will come out of it we are sure” with a smirk and a bemused jerk of the head we keep down the paper, turn around to go on about with our work throwing the crumpled tissue thoughtlessly over the wall. Of course they are picking the garbage from one place and dumping it somewhere else….or maybe its just a publicity stunt after all, just another political gimmick….yes of course, so do hell with this campaign too as nothing is gonna change in this country ever.

But if someone PKayish would happen to visit our country he wouldn’t help asking why we even need a nationwide billion dollar campaign to keep our own country clean? Can we really not take the pains of walking 3 steps to the dustbin without our prime minister urging us to do so and can we really not curb the urge to empty that dustpan right into the street unless some movie star getting involved and “inspiring” us?

Well for some maybe it is all true….but for this remarkable fellow there is no need for a partner or media or some government funded campaign to act on what he felt for….

Caron Pierre is an Irish man who set out to clean up a monument in a strange country with its own people ridiculing him all around.

“Pagal saab”, as the locals refer to him, has fallen in love with the wonderful stepwells of the city and has taken up the task of cleaning up the ‘Mahila Bagh Jhalra’. “When I saw the structure and it’s state of neglect, I decided to clear the muck,” said Caron.

For more than two weeks, he regularly worked alone for 5 to 7 hours cleaning the jhalra and he did it all by himself. “What surprises me is that neither the government nor the local administration seem to be concerned about the upkeep of this marvellous heritage, which once addressed the water needs of the city in this desert town,” he deplored. Maybe when we turn around a street and see it strewn with litter we cannot go ahead and clean it up like pagal saab but I hope that next time we will take just a little extra pain not to add to that litter ourselves.

slivers of silver

download Every morning as we wake up to a new day, some of us are hopeful and dreamy as we look at the sun, some nervous and restless as we run through the day’s schedule, some rubbing our sleepy eyes dragging ourselves to the kitchen while some already rushing through the daily humdrum and then wham! we read or hear of something which jolts us right out of our reverie….. Its the headlines of the day pouring from all over….a guy murdered by his brother over the family land, terrorist attacks at a school killing hundreds of innocent children, a minor girl of mere 7 gang raped….the bubble of morning happiness pricked we just shake our heads and try shoving the nagging idea of lost humanity aside to focus on the day ahead…. But the day brings heated conversations and as we all reflect on the events there’s an idealist among us who sadly questions our morals- what has happened to the world? There is the hotheaded rebel who rages at everything and everyone. And then there is an optimist who knows the world seems to be maddening more and more, knows we need to act but maybe is just too tired of mourning, and foolish though it may seem in such hopeless times, still wants to cling on to the positivity around. After all, aren’t we all shades of greys? Is it that bad to choose to see the tiny white spots among the darkening greys and blacks? Isn’t hope for goodness the ultimate saviour of humanity? TheDoGooders is an attempt from one such optimist to spot the slivers of sliver in the huge canvas which is the world…an attempt to bring to light some heartwarming stories of altruists out there who still believe in good and make us all believe too! 🙂 🙂
